ProjectGive Foundation ("we", "us", "our") runs the ProjectGive website, the member community and the giving services available at https://app.projectgive.com.ng. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have.
We are the data controller for the information described here. If you have any question about this policy, contact us at info@projectgive.com.ng.
1. Information you give us
When you apply for membership, we collect the details you enter on the application form. These include:
- Your full name, email address and phone number, and any alternate email or phone you provide
- Gender, date of birth, occupation and relationship status, where you choose to give them
- Residential address, country and state of residence, state of origin and local government area
- Social media handles and whether you use WhatsApp, where you choose to give them
- How you heard about ProjectGive and who referred you
- Why you want to join, your skills and interests, the causes you care about, your volunteering availability and any suggestions you share
When you activate a community account, we also store your chosen password in a hashed form that cannot be read or reversed by us, and, if you choose, a profile photo and short biography.
When you make a contribution, we collect the amount, the purpose you state, and the payment reference. If you notify us of a bank transfer, we collect the proof of payment you upload.
When you contact us, post in the community, message another member or use the support chat, we keep those messages so we can respond and keep a record.
2. Information we collect automatically
To keep the service secure and working properly, we record technical information such as your IP address, browser type, the pages you visit and the time of important account actions such as signing in, changing a password or turning two-factor authentication on or off. These security records are kept in an audit log.
If you choose to enable push notifications, a device identifier is stored so alerts can reach your device.
3. Why we use your information
- To assess and process your membership application
- To create and operate your community account
- To record and acknowledge your contributions, and to issue receipts
- To send you service messages such as receipts, verification codes, welcome messages and birthday messages
- To operate the member community, directory and messaging
- To respond to your enquiries and support requests
- To keep proper financial and governance records, as any responsible organisation must
- To protect the service against unauthorised access, fraud and abuse
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing.
4. Our legal basis
Where the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 applies, we rely on the following grounds. We process your information because it is necessary to provide the membership and giving services you asked for; because we have a legitimate interest in running the organisation securely and keeping accurate records; because we must comply with legal and financial record-keeping obligations; and, where the law requires it, because you have given consent. Where we rely on consent you may withdraw it at any time.
5. Who we share information with
We share personal information only where it is necessary:
- Our payment provider, to process online donations securely. Your full card details are entered on the payment provider's own secure page and are never stored on ProjectGive systems.
- Our email provider, to deliver the emails you receive from us.
- Our push notification provider, if you enable notifications.
- Our hosting provider, which stores the data that runs the service.
- Our cloud storage provider, where encrypted backups of the service are kept so your records can be restored after an incident.
- The ProjectGive Management Team, who review applications, verify contributions and administer membership.
- Professional advisers, auditors or the authorities, where we are required or permitted by law.
6. What other members can see
ProjectGive includes a member community. Your name, membership code, profile photo, biography and anything you post are visible to other signed-in members. You can control whether you appear in the member directory and whether other members may message you from your profile page at any time. Your contact details, contribution history and application answers are never shown to other members.
7. How long we keep information
We keep membership and contribution records for as long as you are a member and afterwards for as long as we must keep financial and governance records under Nigerian law. Applications that are not successful are kept only as long as needed to explain the decision. Security and audit records are kept for a limited period appropriate to their purpose. You may ask us to delete information we no longer need.
8. How we protect your information
- Traffic to and from the site is encrypted using HTTPS
- Passwords are stored only as strong one-way hashes
- Two-factor authentication is available to members and administrators, by emailed code or an authenticator app
- Administrative access is limited by role, so staff see only what their duties require
- Sensitive actions are recorded in an audit log
- Backups are stored outside the public website directory and are not reachable from the internet
- Database and email credentials are stored outside the public website directory
No service can promise perfect security, but we take these measures seriously and review them.
9. Your rights
Subject to Nigerian data protection law, you may ask us to:
- Give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Correct information that is wrong or incomplete
- Delete information we no longer have a proper reason to keep
- Restrict or object to how we use your information
- Transfer your information to you or another organisation in a portable form
- Withdraw any consent you previously gave
To exercise any of these, email info@projectgive.com.ng. We will respond within the period required by law. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
10. Children
ProjectGive membership is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will remove it.
11. Cookies
We use a small number of strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in, to protect forms against cross-site request forgery, and to remember your session. These are required for the service to work and are not used for advertising or cross-site tracking.
12. Information held outside Nigeria
Some of our providers, including our email, notification and cloud backup providers, may store information on servers outside Nigeria. Where that happens we take reasonable steps to ensure the information remains protected to a standard consistent with Nigerian data protection law.
13. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date shown on this page and, where the change is significant, tell members directly.
